Last photos of 2007

Nov. 18,07....Still looking the same from the front......all board and batten is up , stairs have been shored up, mounds of sand have been moved to build up the base covering the foundation/frost wall.
A back view and this time no construction waste! All cleaned up and trucked out.... Notice the wee bit of snow on the roof. It was a great day when Rob took this photo - 6 degrees, and a bright sky. He had hoped to get up to the cottage one more weekend, but by the next Saturday, we'd had a huge dumping of snow and it got cold so for all but those with snowmobiles, the season was done :0(
Our log cabin - next major project will be to refurbish but inside the new cottage is priority! We hope to make this a bunkie one day - - so beware if you come to stay and we mention our guest quarters await you!!
Our shed closer down to the water -- houses the water toys, lawn chairs, bbq for now...etc. This was our first project on the lot, built three years ago.

Our screen porch is the area to the right. Rob will put screens up in the spring and a screen door to the deck. Railings on the deck to come to! The list seems endless ;)

Thanks for your interest! We can't wait for the snow to melt and our first chance to get up and start "moving in. " We'll let you know when the next round of pics is available!

October 28th

Our kitchen built-in...I have way more cupboard space at the cottage than at home!

Our half-functional bathroom...shower enclosure has to wait 'til spring.

Our "arrow" wall in the great room.

Our bathroom vanity in progress...doors to yet be installed.

Kitchen. We are staining the island bar top ourselves (add to "to do" list). Note that
the red colour in this picture is more true than the above built-in picture.

Hi again: Our apologies for a much too long wait between posts. We have seen some more progress but didn't have the camera at the ready a couple of weeks ago, so we had to wait to get some pictures of what's been done since our last post.

We now have panelling on most of the walls in the "great room" area and last week our kitchen was installed! A couple of loose ends need to be taken care of such as the doors on the bathroom vanity (erroneously painted the kitchen red instead of stained the colour we picked), and the pulls on the drawers and doors and some trim. We suspect that they will finish that all off, when the correct bathroom doors are put on. We also have a working toilet (although we have now shut the water off for the winter), and the shower is partially installed (the water works, but need to get the enclosure done (in the spring).

So, have a look at the latest pictures and a BIG thanks to my dad, Gerry, and Rob's dad, Robert Sr. for their help in getting the panelling up. It was a huge job, and one that took the better part of 4 days, with all three of them working hard and long hours. We're still a long way from done, but with each bit that gets checked off the list, we see how it's going to come together eventually. Note our nifty "arrow wall". What the eye doesn't see when it is just framing and stud walls. An unanticipated, architectural detail that will give it some character!

September 22/23rd

Hi all! We finally have some new photos to show you. We were away from the cottage for a few weeks, and last weekend, although Rob was up there....he forgot to take pictures!
This weekend, we did not forget! We are happy to report that we have electricity (note the operational lights in photos), our plumbing is nearing completion (when we have a toilet that flushes - - I'll call it done !), the fireplace is in (still needs to be boxed in and a hearth installed), and the ceiling is enclosed with gorgeous tongue-and-groove pine! The only piece the builder has left to do is finish a little bit of board and batten around the windows at the front - - they ran out of siding (the only major glitch thus far), so we wait until that comes in.
Now Rob is working on panelling the walls in the bathroom and kitchen first, in preparation for our kitchen cupboards and the bathroom vanity to be installed the week after Thanksgiving (first photo is bathroom walls). We hope to have the whole place panelled before the snow flies. Then the rest will have to wait until spring as our road in is seasonal. Slowly, slowly.....

August 14th...

Hello again: We are back from a week of vacation (sort of....) at the cottage. The latest scoop is that the outside didn't progress as we had hoped....they ran out of board and batten siding. So the builder is measuring what he has left and our decision about how to proceed stems from that. On a positive note, we had our septic system installed, inspected and approved and the electrical rough-in is done and awaiting inspection/approval. Hydro did however, hook us up to the "grid" so technically we do have power :0) Plumbing got delayed a bit too, so next Monday, Rob is meeting with the plumber to go over some stuff and that job will begin. We also had a surprise visit from the building inspector and despite a few little things to be taken care of (some extra nails in the girders, a couple of extra studs for support in two spots)...the shell is solid and passes the grade! So, here are a few of the latest shots... hope you are having a great summer!

Almost there!

Hi again - we're are back from our last visit to check on the progress and are happy to report they will be done the shell as of next Friday! They've got the windows and doors in, and are well on their way to finishing the board and batten siding. They will install the deck posts...we are doing the railings (probably over our holidays during the August Civic Holiday week). We are going to have the contractor do the ceilings on the inside, and then the rest is ours (all other finishing inside, that is....).

Sorry for the delay....

Hi there - we (I - Carolyn) forgot to take our digital camera last weekend and we had to take pics with a disposable camera, and wait (Heaven forbid) to develop the roll. However, I have them on disk and am able to show you the progress from last weekend. Since then, we've heard from the builder that the windows and doors are all in, and they've started putting up the board and batten siding! Can't wait to check in with the place tomorrow night!!

I have camera packed for this trip, so hopefully we'll post new pics on Sunday night or Monday morning.

Our newest neighbour at the cottage!

This "little" guy was sunning by our beach last weekend. We hope it was a garter snake (as opposed to something not so benign), as Matthew felt the need to touch it! We've also had loads of deer prints on the beach, especially if we are there first thing in the a.m.
